Mulligan Strategy

What a keepable seven looks like, with the actual numbers.

The hands this deck keeps are defined by whether they do something on turn one and whether they can cast two spells on turn two.

Keep

  • Two lands, a one-mana threat, and any cantrip.
  • Two lands, a Cutter, and a free spell to trigger it on turn two.
  • Three lands with two threats, on the play or the draw.

Ship

  • One land, whatever else it holds. Eighteen lands does not support a one-land keep.
  • Four or more lands with one threat.
  • A hand whose only action is a two-drop and no way to reach a second spell.

The relevant figures on the exact sixty, before any mulligan: two or more lands in 68.6% of sevens, at least one one-mana threat in 65.4%, and both together in 41.6%. A Cutter appears in 39.9%.
