Role Assignment

You are the beatdown almost always, and the exceptions are narrow enough to name.

In nearly every matchup this deck is the aggressor, and the question is only how much interaction it can afford alongside the clock.

The exceptions

  • Against another Izzet Prowess deck on the draw, where the second player is often the one trading rather than racing.
  • Against Affinity after boarding, where makes a controlling turn worth more than an attacking one.

That is the whole list. Against the reanimator decks, against Eldrazi, against Esper Blink, you are the beatdown and a slow game is a lost one.

Rules noteThe role does not change because you drew removal. It changes when the removal is better spent controlling than racing, which is rare.
