The Discount, and How It Works

The two-cost Krennic unit is not your leader, and the discount applies once per round.

Director Krennic, On the Verge of Greatness is a two-cost 2/2 with Shielded, and it is a different card from your leader. It reads: the first unit you play each round that has a "When Defeated" ability costs 1 less.

Rules noteFirst, each round, and only units with a When Defeated ability. Three separate conditions, and the one that is misplayed is the first: the discount goes to whichever such unit you play earliest in the round, not to the one you would most like it to.

So the ordering matters. If the round contains both an at one and an at four, playing the Droid first spends a one-resource discount on a one-cost card. Playing the Mercenary first spends it on a four-cost card, and the Droid still costs one afterwards. It is a small edge that compounds across a game, and it is free.

It is in 96% of the twenty-five sampled Krennic lists, which is as close to mandatory as this archetype gets.
