Positioning and the Lone-Unit Tension

Mask of Foresight and En Garde pay for units standing alone, and the Sprite plan makes units stand in groups.

gives +1 when a friendly unit attacks or defends alone. gives +1, and another +1 if the buffed unit is the only unit you control at that location. Both are cards that reward not going wide.

Strategy thesisThree Sprites at one battlefield is not one unit alone anywhere, and five main-deck slots quietly stop working.

The resolution is directional, not numerical

Going wide across three battlefields keeps both cards live and threatens three conquests at once. Going wide at one battlefield turns both off and wins one fight decisively. Neither is correct in general; the deck is asking you to pick one every turn rather than to drift between them.

  • Spread when the opponent has a single big defender and cannot be everywhere.
  • Spread when you hold or have Mask deployed.
  • Concentrate when the opponent can profitably attack a lone 3-Might body.
  • Concentrate when one specific battlefield decides the game and the others do not.

Smoke and Mirrors is the correction card

It swaps two of your units between locations if at least one has Temporary, and draws. Your Sprites always satisfy that condition, so it is a Hidden card that fixes a spread you got wrong, at reaction speed, while replacing itself.
